No amount of magic could prepare him for the beguiling lass who spurns his advances and defies him.

From the moment Tamlyn takes a stand against her kind, she’s had to fight one perilous battle after another. Staying alive in an endless struggle, and the lines between good and evil are blurred with every encounter. She’s always stood alone—until she comes to the aid of an irresistibly handsome stranger. Review:

The Dragon Kings have found an all new realm to spread their sexy magic to and the women of that world have even less of a chance of resisting than us mere mortals on Earth ever did.  Those of us that are long time readers of the Dark World series by Donna Grant have been thrilled to experience the joy and tears of each Dragon King as he gets the chance to travel to Zora and see the dragons that he thought long lost to him.  The Dragon Kings series continues the long held tradition of a King finding his mate in the most unexpected of situations and her being a most wondrous and unexpected woman to boot.  Donna Grant’s never-ending ability to draw readers into new and interesting storylines keeps this longstanding series intriguing and fascinating to readers and keeps us coming back for more. This time the story revolves around newly-arrived Cullen who has traveled to Zora at the call of Constantine, the King of all Dragon Kings, in order to help them to defeat the new enemy that is targeting Con and Rhi’s twins and the dragons on their world.  When he stumbles on a woman running for her life, even though she's outside his jurisdiction, there is no way that he can resist offering his aid, despite the wishes of Con and the twins.  Tamlyn is ready to face her death in order to protect her newest charge, but when she comes face to face with a gorgeous stranger who is offering his assistance she mistrusts him despite the pull she feels toward him.  Cullen believes that offering his help to Tamlyn and her friends is the right thing to do and will also offer him a way to accomplish their mission of finding their enemy-- thankfully the naysayers reluctantly agree to allow him to help.  But as they work together they both slowly come to understand that the attraction they are feeling will not be something they can resist forever.

I loved watching Cullen open Tamlyn’s heart and teach her to trust him. She has obviously lived a difficult life and it has left her rightfully mistrustful of others, but she learns to trust in Cullen and slowly the passion between them leads to much deeper feelings, even though she knows that no future can ever come of it. Cullen is determined to protect Tamlyn at all costs, even at the risk of starting a war on this new realm, because he knows this woman is his Fated mate.  She was the perfect match for him once she found her faith in not only him but herself and began to believe in herself and her ability to protect and defend those she loves.  The two of them had an instant and heated connection, despite her wariness and his fears of relationships, but once they both began to learn more about one another that heat just bloomed into a deeper and warmer fire.  I loved when they both began to open up to one another, the conversations and intimacy as well as their physical connection shows that they will be able to maintain and enjoy that profound bond for their entire lifetime.  This series continues to become more and more interesting as new subplots are introduced and we get to learn more about this new realm that the Dragon Kings find themselves inhabiting.  As always the characters and their backstories are often heartrending, but in the end it makes them so well-rounded and wonderful that you just want to be the one meeting them yourself.  I am dying to find out who will be the next King to find love in this odd  new world and what woman will steal his heart but  I know their love story will be just as fabulous as the previous ones in the series.  While I wish Cullen and Tamlyn’s story had been full-length of course, I am looking forward to seeing more of them in the next novel and watching as they grow and I think they will be very important to the coming overall arc for Zora.  Donna Grant is definitely taking us into a captivating new direction with this series and I cannot wait to come along for the ride.
