Review:
I was so thrilled to get a chance to return to the wonderful rich and amazing world of Ms. Singh’s home country in this amazing story that is a spin-off of one of my favorite series.  When I finally started the book—I admit I pushed it as long as possible so I could stretch the anticipation—I was hooked immediately.  The sexy characters, steamy storyline and sweet sensuality that Ísa develops as she comes out of her shell makes me so happy I got a chance to enjoy reading this one.  Sailor has worked all his life to meet his goals and knows no other way than going full out to get what he wants, so when he decides he wants Ísa, after she blows his mind on their first encounter then runs away, there is no doubt she’ll be his.  Ísa wants nothing more from life than to be normal;  her family might be one of the richest in the country, but she doesn’t want that life, even though her mother keeps pulling her back into it.  When she meets Sailor she throws all caution to the wind and decides that she’s going to go after something she wants more than anything for once.  But as past and present collide, forcing them to work together and find a way to deal with their new relationship, Ísa and Sailor both have to decide just what their priorities in life are and what comprises they will make for their love.  Ísa was an interesting character to get to know; her insecurities and doubts were tempered with a fiery spirit and mama-bear protectiveness, making her a perfectly rounded character that I loved to read about.  Once she allowed herself to open her heart to Sailor she had to deal with the chance he would break her heart, but knew the only way to find out if they had anything special was the truly give him a chance.  Sailor was an awesome guy that I would love to find in real life.  He has real determination to make something of himself and doesn’t just sit around waiting for good things to happen to him, instead grabbing life as it comes and turning it into opportunities.  The chemistry between these two was explosive from the very beginning and I definitely needed a cold shower more than once during this story, so I suggest lots of cold water and a cool pool when reading this one.  I am hoping this series continues or that we get another contemporary series from Ms. Singh, because though I do honestly LOVE her Psy-Changling series with all my heart, she also excels with these contemporary works and I want more of them.  If you love a good hot story that leads to a love you know will last until the end of their days, Cherish Hard is just the book for you I guarantee it.

Review: Hot and Badgered (Honey Badger Chronicles #1)

Hot and Badgered (Honey Badger Chronicles #1)
by Shelly Laurenston

Blurb:
It’s not every day that a beautiful naked woman falls out of the sky and lands face-first on grizzly shifter Berg Dunn’s hotel balcony. Definitely they don’t usually hop up and demand his best gun. Berg gives the lady a grizzly-sized t-shirt and his cell phone, too, just on style points. And then she’s gone, taking his XXXL heart with her. By the time he figures out she’s a honey badger shifter, it’s too late.
Honey badgers are survivors. Brutal, vicious, ill-tempered survivors. Or maybe Charlie Taylor-MacKilligan is just pissed that her useless father is trying to get them all killed again, and won’t even tell her how. Protecting her little sisters has always been her job, and she’s not about to let some pesky giant grizzly protection specialist with a network of every shifter in Manhattan get in her way. Wait. He’s trying to help? Why would he want to do that? He’s cute enough that she just might let him tag along—that is, if he can keep up . . .

Review:
So as with all of my reviews for this author's work, I have to preface everything I’m about to say with the fact that if you are looking for something even remotely normal—be it characters, writing style, or plotline—I recommend you look elsewhere.  Shelly Laurenston is an amazing author, but her sense of humor is a little bit off and if you aren’t ready to deal with that, jump ship right now…
Now, with that being done, I will share that this new spin-off series kicks off with some seriously hilarious moments and sexy as all get out characters kicking ass.  I loved every single second of this story despite the fact that these characters are even more odd than in previous series.  There is a continuation from her previous shifters series with many characters and places carrying over, but some fun new people as well.  I loved getting to know the honey badger family dynamic a bit more, beyond having just met Livy in previous novels.  Charlie and Berg were hilarious together, neither of them really understanding one another, but Berg’s protectiveness toward her was beyond sweet and seeing them working together to solve their families' issues was entertaining.  I loved Berg and wish I could find one just like him to make my very own.  He was a serious badass in one moment, but in the next his brain would lead him to a more strategic fix and he’d actually use his mind instead of his body or muscles to get his way. Charlie on the other hand has been leading her little family out of the trouble they get into for decades already and knows just what needs doing, even if she resists having to do it sometimes.  I enjoyed seeing her plotting mind moving chess pieces until she was able to call checkmate on her opponents and the game was over.  In the end Berg and Charlie realized they work best together and despite the craziness that would become their lives, a mating between a honey badger and a grizzly was just what the doctor prescribed.  I am looking forward to what comes next.

Review:
The amazing story of a group of friends that have come together to offer their services as badasses to those of us in the world that may need their skills continues in a big way as Zac Savage finds himself wrapped around the little finger of not one, but two women that are destined to steal his heart. This series is one that I decided to read simply because I am a little bit obsessed with Katie’s ability to weave a tale and wish I could do what she does with even half her ability.  I loved the first story and couldn’t see how she would be able to top it, and while I will say this one didn’t quite TOP that one, it was a wonderful story with lots of action, suspense, danger, emotion, and passion.  Savage has lived the majority of his life not believing he deserved the love of any woman, much less a good woman, one with a special daughter, like Olivia, but when she is in need of his unique brand of assistance he steps up and finds himself ensnared by her big-time.  Olivia left her life of petty criminal stupidity a long time ago when her daughter came along, but now she is being yanked back in and the danger around her is too real to deny.  She runs to her best friend with only the slimmest hope of Skye and her new company being able to help, but when she meets Zac Savage she isn’t prepared for the passion he ignites in her blood.  Working together to overcome the obstacles to her freedom and her safety and that of the most important people in their lives, Zac and Olivia soon find they’re falling hard for one another.  But when the danger passes is there really a chance for them to lead a life together or will the fire between them fizzle and die?  I LOVED Savage and can guarantee that if I ever met a man like him in real life there is no way I would let him get away from me, but even better was his willingness to stand beside—or sometimes in front of—Olivia as she fights her way free of her enemies.  Savage is obviously seriously damaged by his past, but the love and devotion he’s ready to offer to Olivia and her daughter are nothing to be scoffed at and I was thrilled to watch him open his heart at last.  Olivia has made a few mistakes in her youth, but haven’t we all?  Now she is paying for some of them unfortunately and she has dragged the man she has come to love into danger with her.  It is obvious that Olivia is remorseful for the drama and pain she is causing, but her own fears and insecurities got in the way of her ability to accept her happiness a lot of the time.  This is the biggest problem for us women I think; once we’ve been burned it is SO hard for us to ever accept when something good is offered.  In the end Olivia finds a way to show Savage that she can be the woman he needs and opens her life to him and offers them both the chance they need for true happiness.  I loved the ending of this story and cannot wait for the two love-stories that were hinted at in the end to come next.  This is shaping up to be another great series by Ms. Reus, though I am honestly not surprised in the least!

ARC Review: HOT Angel (Hostile Operations Team #12)

HOT Angel (Hostile Operations Team #12)

by Lynn Raye Harris

Blurb:
She's damaged...
Brooke Sullivan's carefully ordered existence is spiraling out of control. Two years ago, she was violently abducted by a terrorist group and nearly killed. She's worked hard to get her life back on track--moving to a new house, changing careers, going on a couple of dates. When she witnesses a murder, she's plunged into a new nightmare. And as the past threatens to repeat itself, she's not sure she'll survive this time.
He's ruthless...
Cade "Saint" Rodgers never forgot the beautiful girl he talked to at the wedding of his commanding officer. Now she's in trouble, and he's the one tasked with protecting her. Brooke is terrified of men like him--a Black Ops soldier for whom violence is a way of life--which makes falling for her a terrible idea. But that won't stop Cade from using every sensual trick he's got to make her believe anything is possible if only she wants it badly enough.
Together, they're combustible...
As danger draws closer, it'll take all of Cade's strength--and all of Brooke's determination--to learn how to let go of the past and trust each other. But it might not be enough. To keep her safe, he may have to let her go forever...
The Hostile Operations Team is a covert military Black Ops unit. Their motto is Where None Dare. H.O.T. operators come from all branches of the military. The only criteria for membership: they must be the best of the best!

Review:
WOW, with all the heat, magic and sexiness you come to expect from a HOT adventure plus the laughter and silliness needed to make this story truly endearing, HOT Angel is beyond any reading experience of the spring.
When I first learned that Brooke Sullivan, the damaged and truly emotionally traumatized victim of one of the previous novels in this series would be getting her very own HOT operator I was truly interested in how Ms. Harris would work that one out.  With so many issues and so much to work through I thought for sure that Brooke would have to be wooed for a long and slow courtship that just couldn’t live up to the awesomeness that we expect from the HOT guys.  Boy do I need to keep my speculations to myself in the future.  Cade “Saint” Rodgers was definitely the man to bring Brooke out of the darkness and show her the way back to life.  For longtime readers of the story, we all know the pain that Brooke has gone through and understand how hard a relationship will be for her with one of these men, but new readers get plenty of background and will not feel like they are left out of the loop. HOT is represented in a big way and we get to see some of our favorite previous couples living life to the fullest, plus some of the new team guys that will someday soon get their own books we hope.  This series continues to amaze me with the way it touches on so many different issues and how the characters are so varied and interesting without ever seeming to be copies of previous folks, even if I can safely say every single operator at HOT is seriously badass and sexy as hell.  If you love an emotion and action packed story with plenty of drama, feels, passion and the ultimate healing power of love, then HOT Angel is the book for you.  I cannot wait for whatever comes our way next in this series and am dying to see Kat and Mendez’s little junior operator!
Cade has had his eyes on Brooke for a while, ever since she basically hit on him in a moment of drunken vulnerability at his friend’s wedding, but he knows she is not ready yet for the kind of relationship he wants and needs from her.  However, nothing says they can’t start off slow and ease into the more physical stuff right?  With that thought in mind, Cade is determined to get Brooke to accept his friendship, and when they quickly become text buddies Cade decides that he will spend whatever time he needs to in order to get Brooke to trust him enough to go out with him, because this woman has snared him in a big way.  Just when Brooke is beginning to open up and thinks she might be ready for a date with Cade, she is thrust back into the deep underbelly of the world of danger and death when she stumbles across her neighbor’s dead body.   When Cade is the first call she makes, he rushes to her side and she’s going to have to work harder than ever to resist him when he decides that she needs him with her to keep her safe.  Now together every moment, will she be able to resist the pull between them or is it time to let go of her fears and finally understand that Cade is the one man in all the world made not just to protect and love her, but to heal her and bring her back into the world of the living where he will make her his.
Cade was so damn hot in this story and there is no way that I would have been able to resist him a third as long as Brooke did.  Seriously, I would have dropped my panties for him by the end of chapter three, so I don’t know how she resisted.  So that being said, his character and his sweetness definitely made him the type of guy to make sure that Brooke not only doesn’t jump into anything too quick, but that she really understands the consequences of her choices.  I loved seeing how deep he fell for her so quickly and that he wasn’t afraid to admit, to himself or his boys, that she had him wrapped around her little finger.  Even as the danger around them escalated, he took his time with her and made sure that she never took on more than she was ready for and that she was always cared for physically AND emotionally.  If I could find a guy like this I would tie him to my bed and make sure he didn’t leave until he was as in love with me as Cade was with Brooke.  Sadly, Brooke was still dealing with a lot of trauma and fear from her kidnapping two years earlier and had not yet fully come to terms with all that had happened to her.  I liked that she was so determined to put up a good front for her friends, but by not fully admitting all that happened I think she hurt herself more than helped.  Perhaps had she found Cade a little sooner, he would have shown her the inner strength she didn’t realize she had much earlier and they could have had that much more time together.  I loved it too how she became such a protective mother bear, even though her own fears when someone younger or weaker than her was in need alongside her. That shows me the type of woman she is and I know I would like her if I met her in person.
For those that are newer to this series, HOT Angel is a good place to begin, with introductions to most of the teams, lots of insight into new characters, and a love story with all the feels and passion they can expect from a HOT story.  But for the rest of us, it was just another masterful continuation in a series we are obsessed with and cannot wait to continue.  I loved seeing Cade and Brooke work through their issues together and find a way to not only deal with the outer drama but the inner pain and turmoil that was making them both so standoffish.  Cade was a regular captain America and I found myself enjoying every moment he was the focus of the story.  Not only was he sexy, but his sweetness, thoughtfulness, and gentle ways were well countered by his gruff sensuality and badassery when he put on his operator hat.  Brooke, who I mostly thought of as a wilting hothouse flower, in the beginning, showed some real backbone in this story and proved she was truly ready to be the woman of a HOT operator and earned my respect several times over.  Not to mention she had an awesome dog with a kickass name too (sorry dog-lovers unite and all).  The passion between Cade and Brooke burned right off the pages, whether they were in the same room or connecting through virtual means, and there was no way to get through a single session of their loving without a cold shower. I loved every second of this story and just might go back and re-read it now that I have revisited to write my review, but I am also dying for whatever comes next.  Whether it is a simple love story for a HOT guy and an everyday woman or even two operators coming together, the heat is always on and Ms. Harris never lets us down!

Review:
This book was one with a lot of twists, turns, and all out confusing moments in the overall plotline, but as far as the relationship between the H/H and the emotions that were obviously there each moment between them, it was another masterpiece of Terry’s work.  This book picks up pretty quickly after the last in the series with another of the arctic wolf pack going off on a job for their private investigation firm and stumbling across a woman that has a past that has been twisted around his own several times.  Gavin and Amelia are both surprised to see one another and they decide to continue on their paths for their own purposes, but once they are forced to work together to survive in the wilderness after their plane crashes the full truth of their twisted past comes to light—luckily not before they both start to realize their connection might go even deeper than coincidence.  Gavin is a sweet guy, despite being a badass wolf shifter with a seriously sexy set of skills as an ex-cop/PI and he determines from the beginning that no matter what he will protect the sexy she-wolf that is by his side no matter what.  I liked his character and seeing him falling deeper for Amelia, despite not understanding the full consequences of their past encounters until he was in much too deep; of course, once he does understand, the fact that he forgives her almost immediately and admits that everyone sometimes makes mistakes, shows me he’s an even better guy than I thought and makes me like him that much more.  Amelia is a badass in her own right.  A kick butt she-wolf with mad piloting skills and the determination to do whatever it takes to keep her and Gavin (and their new friend Wilson) safe in the wild while danger seems to surround them.  She had her moments of vulnerability as she began to fall deeper for Gavin of course, but I could see that she would always be the type of mate to stand right beside him and face any dangers that come their way together.  The overall story was great even if there were some really far-fetched moments that had me second-guessing Ms. Spear’s thought processes, but in the end she tied everything up in a neat little bow so I let it go. If you are looking for a light-hearted read with some laughs, tears, a bit of action and some intrigue you can’t go wrong with Gavin and Amelia’s love story and I am looking forward to whatever comes next for these interesting Arctic wolf P.I.s. For a series that has become so long running and all-encompassing of different groups of shifters and different parts of the world, Terry always manages to give us a fresh angle and some fun new twist to keep each story fresh and interesting and I never doubt I will enjoy reading every moment when I see a new arrival on my To-Read shelf.
