So when I learned that Dee Davis was releasing a new romantic suspense series I knew I had to jump on the chance to read it, being that I was such a huge fan of her previous series (A-Tac).  I can say with all honesty that I enjoyed this new series and am looking forward to the coming stories as well, though there were definitely moments I felt like I wanted to slap the characters around a bit for being so stupid.  It is always a safe bet that there will be layers and layers of intrigue in any Davis novel, being that she very rarely goes for the obvious villain, but I only guessed the villain in this story a chapter or so before the big reveal, which for me is a big accomplishment because I am usually pretty good at figuring out who’s who within the first few chapters.  I enjoyed the overall premise of the new series as well as the first story itself, but there was so much pain and so many lies for Gideon and Emily to work through I felt sure one or both of them would throw in the towel long before they found a way back to each other. Ms. Davis has a  truly amazing ability to make her characters not only jump off the page but to be totally believable to you, easily allowing you to spot some piece of that character in your own best friends, lovers, or parents, bringing you that much closer to the story.  Emily was one of those characters that you wanted to hate, but at the same time you could understand that her upbringing left her so sheltered she refuses to doubt the most important man in her life could ever be anything less than fully truthful with her.  When she is forced to come to the understanding that her father is as human as the rest of us, and therefore flawed, she quickly grows up and finds a way to uncover the spine that was always inside her and hardened to steel in order to demand her due in life.   Once that woman emerged and we got to see her going for what and who she wanted in her life, I truly came to respect her as a woman.  Gideon on the other hand refuses to understand that a woman grows up, loving her father first, and coming to the understanding, even late in life that he isn’t perfect, comes as a shock and he needs to be understanding about it.  Gideon had his own growing up and standing up to due in order to be the man that earned Emily’s renewed love and commitment.   The love between them was so bright and flared so quickly, that neither of them truly believed in one another enough to overcome the odds when they were faced with seemingly insurmountable ones.  I enjoyed seeing Gideon’s friends coming to his aid, emotionally and physically, as he and Emily fought to overcome the plot to first claim her innocence and ultimately claim her life.   I am dying to know when the next book will be out and which one of the boys we will get to watch fall in love next.  I also loved the little peeks into that previous series I mentioned with the return of Harrison to help the guys in their mission to save Emily, because OMG he’s my favorite!  Please hurry and release the next story Ms. Davis, before I die of suspense.

Well the story we have all been clamoring for has finally arrived!

For the longest time now readers have been dying to see Christian and Emily finally quit circling around and crash into one another instead.  The hot men and sexy woman of the BKI team have been slowly falling in love and finding their way into a life that will lead them away from the deep world of darkness they have lived in for so long, but in my eyes they have saved the world over so many times that they deserve a chance to retire in love and happiness.  Julie Ann has been giving us little glimpses of the heat between Christian and Emily for a while now but we have never gotten the full picture of the connection these two would forge.  The danger and drama they find themselves in always means more high powered and sensual connections when they do come together, but the silliness and sweetness that they also found together was the most surprising and wonderful part of this story for me.  Emily is a woman that has a lot of baggage in both her previous professional and personal relationships and she doesn’t give her trust easily, but she is also a woman that knows who she is and what she needs from a man to make him the perfect mate for her.  Christian has lived for so long with the mistakes of his past and the betrayals that lead him into the BKI family, but he has resisted Emily until the resistance has truly become futile.  Now that he has had her in his arms and his bed, no way is he letting her go, and being the sneaky and sexy secret operator he is, his plan to convince her that she needs him just as much is truly diabolical and I LOVED IT! I really enjoyed every second of this story and don’t want to give away too much by sharing all the greatness, but I will say that if you love a hot and sexy man (and to top it all off he has a British accent, y'all) and a sassy and hardass woman, then Hot Pursuit will be just the read for you.  I am dying to read the next (Last?) book in the series coming soon and look forward to getting to know Angel and seeing the full story of the mysterious and sexy secret member of BKI that was have only just gotten to know a bit more about.

Wolf Hunger, book 7 in the SWAT series, begins with Max following his nose to the woman of his dreams—and man don’t we all wish it was that easy to find our one true match in the world!  The SWAT series is one that has intrigued me from the very beginning with its unique and interesting premise and of course the sexy men (and women) that make of the team of badass wolves that are protesting the citizens of Dallas from all the bad guys.  While I was surprised by the direction of the overall arc of the series in recent books, bringing in a much bigger picture of werewolf culture and a big world changing bad guy, I have to say it was done beautifully and I am looking forward to seeing where Ms. Tyler takes us in coming novels.  Max’s story was full of love and laughter as well as some seriously dangerous moments, terrifying bad guys, and tear-inducing feels, and I wouldn’t change a second of it.  Lana and Max’s love story is certainly not smooth sailing by any stretch of the imagination, but I can honestly say that once they managed to survive to their happy ending, I have no doubt their lives will be long and filled with love together.   Lana was an interesting character, even moments when I wanted to smack her for being a ninny, but overall I enjoyed seeing how smart and resourceful she was, and how she was willing to give up anything to save those she loved including risking her own life for those around her.  Max was of course the perfect loving, deadly, alpha wolf and the man to show Lana the ropes as she comes into her wolf nature.  Getting to experience these two coming together and finding a way through the labyrinth of drama and danger was an adventure I would not have given up for any amount of chocolate (sorry no money either but chocolate is always more incentive I think).  Max and Lana were obviously meant to be and seeing them find a way to overcome all odds to be together shows us that even when the odds are stacked against us, if we have faith in each other and work together, we’ll find our love in the end.  I am dying to see whose story comes next and just what will happen with these characters as they continue to experience changes in the wider world of werewolves and the much smaller world of the SWAT pack.  Keep the magic coming Ms. Tyler!

 Wow, I did not see this one coming. 

I knew going in that this series was going to be a little bit different, similar to the Red Stone Security series in some ways perhaps, but I had no idea how different it truly would turn out to be.  I have never read a story with Katie’s stamp on it that I didn’t love, but this new series is sure to be one that will capture my heart and keep me coming back for more for a long time to come.  The series ultimately seems to revolve around a bunch of longtime friends that have banded together to right the wrongs and fight the injustices in the world around them, which is one of my favorite premises for all series.  This first book contains a lot of getting-to-know-you moments with the characters while at the same time we get a truly unique and wonderful story for Skye and Colt. Colt has determined that though he lost the love of his life, he is going to do everything in his power to return his friend’s wife to him when he hears a rumor that she might still be alive.  Imagine his surprise when his rescue mission is interrupted because she has already been rescued, by a mysterious woman that refuses to share her identity with her rescuee or the people that she is helping. But there’s no stopping Colt on a mission and when he finds that the women he has been tailing is his lover—his supposedly dead lover—Colt’s heart is shattered all over again.  Skye gave up the love of her life in order to keep him and his family safe, but now that he knows she is alive there is no way to push him away again, and her heart can't truly take the pain of denying herself his love anymore.  Overcoming their hurts is the least of their problems though as an old enemy surfaces and forces them to come to terms with one another enough to work together to stay alive.  I enjoyed getting to see Colt and Skye working together and slowly healing and renewing their love, even knowing that they both still had serious issues to overcome in order to be together again.  While there were some slow moments, as is common in any first book in a series, Katie never leaves you in a lull for long and soon you are right back in the thick of things with danger around every corner.  Colt was a sexy man with some serious heart and seeing him dealing with his pain brought a tear to my eye more than once, but when his anger burned it was just as painful to see.  While Skye understands his anger on some level, she still loves him so deeply that it is impossible for her to truly understand why he cannot understand her reasons for deceiving and protecting him.  I loved both Skye and Colt and of course the passion between them was beyond sexy to experience, leaving me reaching for the ice water more than once.  I also enjoyed getting to know some of the other characters that will be getting books in the future as well as seeing the love between Colt's friends that were already hooked up.  This series will truly be about a family and the open hearts that will be expanding to allow the lovers of the members to join them and I cannot wait to see it happen. Another masterful work of art, Katie!

Another adventure through the Scottish highlands…what could be a better way to spend the day?  I picked up this series on a whim, mostly because I found I enjoyed the previous series by Ms. Enoch and the covers of this series were too sexy to resist.  This story picks up almost immediately where the previous novel left off, with the newest Duke of Lattimer letting his darling sister know that he intends to marry the woman that has stolen his heart.  Marjorie has missed out on almost all of the important milestones in her life and her brother’s and she is determined to be there for his wedding, despite it being held in the wild of the Scottish highlands and her being stuck trying to make herself respectable to her new neighbors in the London social scene.  Despite the half-cocked plan to make the trip to her brother’s estate, surprising him by not sending word ahead, Marjorie is only a short distance away when disaster strikes in form of a man that is truly irresistible despite him being a Highlander and entirely inappropriate.  Graeme is lamenting his limited ability to keep his small corner of the world safe from the bastards putting pressure on him, when his idiot brothers make everything that much worse, presenting their idea of their savior in the person of the kidnapped Marjorie.  Soon the two of them are pulled closer and closer together, winding their way into one another’s life and ultimately their hearts, until there truly is no separating them, but can there be a happy ending for two people so hugely wrong for one another?

My One True Highlander was an intriguing story with so many little twists and turns that if you tried to skip ahead a chapter I could guarantee you would be completely confused.  Marjorie and Graeme are arguing with each other one moment and the next locked in a passionate embrace, showing the truly tempestuous nature of both of these strong-willed and hardheaded individuals.  Graeme was the kind of brother we all hope to have as we grow up, a man that will give his all to make our lives better and to make sure that we find our happiness.  He is also a great leader among men, worrying every day what he can and should do to make the lives he holds in his hands easier and flourishing, not just figuring out what his people can do to make him richer or his life easier as so many leaders of that time did.  Marjorie is a strong willed Scottish lass even if she never realized it until she meets Graeme and his people;  she knows her own mind and will use whatever means she deems necessary to make sure that all is right in the world.  She worries just as much for those she loves, and when Graeme and his people are counted among those numbers, her life become just that much more complicated.  The heat generated between these two is definitely enough to fuel a long winter night in the Scottish Highlands and I have no doubt that for a long time to come Graeme and his Marjorie will be passionate and loving. Also I will say I loved the little side romance we got in this story and was seriously surprised when it came to fruition, but that’s the only hint you get!  I am looking forward to seeing whose story comes next and finding out what kind of trouble Ms. Enoch gets her characters into, but whatever happens I know without a doubt that the men and women of her Highland Clans will be amazing to get to know.

 The series that has captured every romantic dog-loving centimeter of my heart continues with a story we never thought we’d get about a man that once thought he’d lost everything to a stupid mistake and a woman that gave her heart away long ago and never truly got it back.  Molly and Trace—and Pru’s—story was so full of feels that I knew by the end my heart was going to be broken at least once, but I had faith that Rocki would find a way to mend it as she always has. Rocki’s built this amazing world around a family of overachieving, animal-loving, and family oriented individuals that are all about to find out that love is not something that you can ever see coming, even if it is coming back around for a second chance.  I loved this story even more than the others in the series, even though some might say that the long lost lover returning to the existence of a half grown child is a bit of an overdone trope, but with the skill of our favorite author leading the way, Bad to the Bone is in no way a letdown.  If you like a sweet but angsty love story with all the fears and emotions on the wide range of the human scale and even a few that we like to pretend don’t affect us anymore, then Trace and Molly will give you everything you could ever need in a read.  I cannot wait for whoever's love story comes next, as well as the chance to check in with our previous couples to see how they are moving forward in their lives. 

Trace and Molly had a brief but intense moment one night that neither of them ever imagined would have the consequence it did—not the least of which is the existence of their daughter Prudence.  Now Trace is back and Molly is in no way prepared for him to be back in her life.     Trace knows he’s not anywhere near good enough for Molly, even if he might have been close before, but now that he’s an ex-con with not much more than a broken down trailer and a sick dog to his name, there’s not even an iota of a chance.   But when he is forced to beg for her help to save the only creature he has that loves him, his beloved dog, Trace will give anything to Molly for her to save Meatball.  Thrown together in their love of animals and the close confines of the training facility where Trace soon finds himself employed, Trace and Molly clash and have to find a way to come to terms with their past, especially once Trace understands that Pru isn’t only Molly’s daughter, but his as well.  Too bad becoming a father to a precocious preteen was never something he learned and Trace has no idea how to handle all these changes in his life, but now that he knows, he will do anything to make her happy…even give up his chance to be in her life.

The interesting part of this story is that Rocki gave us several flashbacks to the time when Trace and Molly’s lives changed forever, times that they both had to change along with their circumstances in order to survive.  I loved seeing Molly and her mother interacting as they worked together to handle the pregnancy as well as the early years of Pru’s life and seeing how supportive Molly’s mother was, despite possibly being disappointed in her daughter’s mistakes. Molly was one of those characters that intrigued me in previous novels because we needed to understand her story to know just how awesome a person she really was.  I was a bit sad the few times she struck out at Trace in her anger, but at the same time could understand that a woman sometimes uses the man she loves as the most convenient outlet for her frustrations and disappointment.  Trace on the other hand made me cry so many times; I could see just how self-aware he was, but at the same time he also couldn’t see just how wonderful of a man he truly was.  Yes, he made a mistake, a deadly one, but it was not something he did out of spite or evil, and he paid for it more than anyone should ever have to.  I loved seeing him come to understand that he deserved the love of the family that wanted to pull him into their fold, including his daughter and the mother of his child, the woman whose heart he stole a decade before and never returned.  He was the perfect balance of sweet, sexy, alpha, and forgiving, making him the perfect man to me, not to mention he was awesome with the animals and all animals know a person’s true heart. Two people so obviously meant for one another,finally getting a chance to have their love, what more could a reader ask for?

While I have never read a single story by Roxanne St. Claire that I didn’t love, this story especially hurt my heart, with two people both spending so many years believing they were undeserving of the love of the other.  In the end, only by coming back to each other, in trust and perfect love, were Trace and Molly able to understand that their love while developed quickly in their youth, was one that outlasted even all their years apart and was always meant to pull them back together.  It was hard experiencing all the traumas with them as they dealt with their issues and found a way for their family to mend their shattered foundations, but in the end the experience made me a better person for having shared in it.  Molly was a woman torn, dealing with turbulent emotions ranging from passion, fear, anxiety, anger, and ultimately deep and abiding love, but she was also a mother bear protecting her family from those that would tear it apart from the outside.  Trace was an example of a truly great man and a wonderful father, even if he’d never been one until this very moment, sacrificing even his own happiness and deepest wishes in order to protect his daughter and the woman he loves more than life itself.  The passion between these two while mellowed a bit with age, was in no way a dying fire, and I loved every second of these two finding their way back to one another’s arms. Bad to the Bone combines the best and worst of human nature and relationships and reminds us that even the most life-altering mistakes can be overcome with the truth of a love we all wish to find for ourselves someday. I am looking forward to the rest of the Kilcannon Clan finding love and getting to experience the drama of finding their true matches, and of course whatever adventure Rocki takes us on next. Another masterpiece of doggie-lovingly-epic proportions.

Okay wow, this series just gets better and better.  I was just the tiniest bit skeptical at the onset that Pamela would be able to pull off her usual greatness without all the added drama and danger of her I-Team series and still be able to keep her readers engrossed and craving more, but I know now I should never have doubted her mad skills. Once again Pamela proves that the skill of the author is the most important part of any story’s greatness.  This story has been a LONG time coming and I speak for all her fans when I say it’s about time.  Rain and Joe have become some of our favorite people in Scarlet Springs, truly being the glue that keeps the town together and makes everyone feel like a community. Rain with her innate sweetness and bubbly personality has made it her life’s work to always do whatever is needed to make her and her daughter’s life easier, giving up her dreams and returning home with an infant after the baby’s father turned out to be a bastard. Joe was the only person willing to give her a leg up and she never forgot that, but over the years those feelings have morphed into something deeper and undeniable, so when she is forced to take advantage of his hospitality she thinks it might finally be time to lay all her cards on the table.  But Joe is a stubborn man.  Joe would give anything to feel like he deserves a chance at happiness with Rain, but he has too much to atone for and the sins of his ancestors run long and deep, even if most of the current residents of Scarlet Springs don’t know it. Joe has wanted Rain for many years, but he won’t cross the line by sleeping with one of his employees so he has worked very hard to hide his desires and need from her, but when her world crumbles around her there is no way he won’t step in and offer her a safe haven.  Thrown together in the close quarters of Joe’s home and forced to come to terms with one another’s true feelings Joe and Rain must decide if they are willing to risk everything for a chance at the true happiness they both have searched for their entire lives.  I LOVED every second of this story and was thrilled I got the chance to read it (even mother nature helped ensure it got my full attention when snow swept into Florida closing the state down to give me the full  day to read:) ). Rain was the type of woman that I always wished I had the energy to be, sweet, fiery, giving and loving, despite circumstances that have made many a woman lose all confidence in themselves and certainly hardened their hearts.  She is not only the center of Joe’s world but the heart of  the small town of Scarlet Springs whether she realizes it or not, making her thoughts of possibly leaving town all that more terrifying.  Joe is a big sexy bear of a man, and to be honest in the previous stories I guess I missed the fact that he was so damn sexy… must not have been paying enough attention! But getting to see him through Rain’s eyes, especially as she falls even deeper in love with him showed me just how wonderful he truly was. The heat between Rain and Joe has certainly been building for twenty years so when they finally give into their passions and give themselves permission to fully embrace one another there is no way anyone in town can miss the sparks flying and melting the snow of the blizzard that put Rain in this predicament to begin with.  I am so glad that Pamela took a chance with this series and I cannot wait for whatever comes next because the characters in this town are so unique, interesting and full of life, I feel like I could drive into a small town in Colorado, walk into a local bar and find myself meeting each of these people as if they stepped right off the pages. If you are looking for a wonderful read for a long snowy day or a few nights by the fire cuddled with your honey,  this is the perfect read, but bring the tissues and the wine, trust me you will need them. Another stroke of genius,  Pamela!
