Review:
I have always wondered how authors can
deal with such darkness in their own imaginations that cause them to write such
dark and horrific stories like this, but then I remind myself that the truth
they bury in their stories is the reality we still live in to this day. Savage Chains revolves around a male with a
twisted past on a mission to bring the horrific torture and slavery of so many
in this world to an end, even at the expense of his soul. I have enjoyed reading the stories in this series,
but to be honest sometimes the darkness is so deep that I felt I needed to
scrub myself raw to get the ick off, and still wished I could do the same in my
brain. Roane is an author that always
carries a very dark undertone in her writing, and while I enjoy it, it's
certainly not for every reader, no matter how beautifully she writes. It is important to mention that this story
actually takes place between the first and second full length novel in this
series and was originally released in three novellas, making the single release
very long and perhaps full of slightly more of those dark scenes in the full
book, which might not have been so bad in the shorter stories. Having read the entire series now, I believe,
I can say that I liked all four books for their heroic characters and the
overlying sense of love and devotion that surprises even the males as they find
their mates. If you aren't a fan of stories
that explore the darker side of reality, torture, slavery, etc. I recommend you not read these as it will
just upset you even though the book is great.
Reyes and Angelica had a very scary and difficult path ahead
of them as they fell in love, but the way they come together to reach their
goals and defeat the longstanding ring of slavery and murderers was beyond
amazing. Reyes was a ruthless man, until
he realized the damage he would have to do to Angelica to reach those goals,
then his life and mission changed forever.
He has spent centuries trying to bring down the ring of slavers that
have been kidnapping, selling, torturing and murdering thousands to millions of
humans and vampires for a long time. He
is almost to his goal, but when Angelica is forced into the crosshairs they
have to navigate the perilous path they find themselves on. Reyes character and his sweetness shine
through at the most unexpected of moments and there is no way that a better man
is to be found, making Angelica a very lucky woman. Yanked from her life and put on the auction
block, Angelica never imagine she would find herself face to face with the man
she has been lusting after for months, and it is almost the straw that breaks
her. But her fire and passion have made
her a hit with the slavers and she is thrust into a role she's not sure she can
actually play. I loved how Angelica was
the perfect match for Reyes and the two of them found a way to not only kick
ass and bring down a hideous conglomerate, but they are also able to find love
and happiness together.
Savage Chains serves I believe as the final release in this
series, though I’m not positive, and is actually the compilation of three novellas that were previously released.
Angelica is a woman that has unending depths of compassion, strength and
bravery in the face of pure evil. Reyes
is a man that has lived in the dark for so long, as a captive himself and then
disguised as a slaver to bring down the entire organization. Many of the scenes, many, were almost too
dark for me to even read, but in the end I had to read it all to appreciate the
true importance of Reyes mission. Just make
sure you have a huge box of tissues or very absorbent towel to soak up all the
tears as you read. Roane's dark portrayal
of the underbelly or the world, and let's not kid ourselves, this same thing is
really happening in our human world, is well written and makes me want to find
an organization to support that has a mission similar to Reyes. Looking forward to the next Roane release
whether it is this series or another.
