Review:

The latest werewolf drama by Terry Spear is an awesome addition to your library.  I was thrilled to have the opportunity to read this one before its official release, thanks to Terry, and was not surprised to be blown away.  Howl was full of passion, humor and intrigue, all of which I have come to expect from a Terry Spear novel.  The series picks up with the story of Duncan, the brother of Laird Ian MacNeill, whose story we read in Heart of the Highland Wolf, book #7 in the series.  Though there were some books in between the two stories, there are enough reminders in this book that you won’t be confused if it has been a while since you read Ian’s story.
The sexy Highland wolf hero in this story, Duncan MacNeill, has just arrived in the Cayman Islands, on the hunt for the thief that absconded with his clan’s funds when his nose catches a scent that will forever change his life.  Surprised to find a lone she-wolf in the airport, Duncan investigates and discovers the sweet but sassy Shelley Campbell, botanist extraordinaire.  Forced together through unforeseen circumstances, Shelley and Duncan soon are faced with the reality that their passionate natures might cause some problems.  But when danger comes around every corner, working together is their only option to thwart the killers after them as well as the thief Duncan has come for.
Duncan is a great hero, full of spirit, alpha stubbornness, and sweet silliness in perfect proportions.   Though he is initially determined to resist Shelley, not looking to settle down with a mate just yet, Duncan begins to see the beauty of having a mate like Shelley.  Working with her as a partner, Duncan’s expectations of how a she-wolf should act are soon blown all to hell.  He is determined to keep her safe and out of the line of fire, but that is definitely not the way Shelley works.  I loved how this sweet but alpha male came to accept Shelley as a true mate, working with her instead of trying to keep her out of everything.  As the mating progresses, Duncan grows into more mature participant in the relationship, showing that even if you can’t teach an old wolf new tricks you can modify his old tricks enough to make them perfect.
Shelley is a perfect counterpart to Duncan’s austere and severe personality.  She might not be young in age necessarily, but she is still young at heart, playful and sweet.  She isn't ready to settle down either, but denying the feelings she has for Duncan is becoming increasingly difficult as they spend more time working and living together.  Seeing how brave, sweet, stubborn and loving he can be firsthand is breaking down all her barriers.  When she is faced with the truth of the danger after them, she knows that she’ll need his help to stay safe, but she won’t stay in the background at his expense.  She has to make him see that she can cover his back as his true mate, or there’s no hope for them to have a future. In the end the sizzling heat is irresistible and she knows that giving in to Duncan will be worth the complications.
While the love story between Duncan and Shelley was thrilling to read, I wasn't bowled over with the subplot about Sal, the embezzling, womanizing wolf.   Even though there was plenty of intrigue and the challenges that his part of the story provided for the H/H were necessary, I wished there was a bit more info at times.  I was a little confused here and there about just who was the real bad guy… was it Sal? Carlotta? Sal and Carlotta equally? And who sent the killers after Duncan and Shelley? I appreciated the wrap up at the end of the story, but I still would have liked a bit more… something… along this plotline.
Overall, I loved this story.  There was so much humor, wit, and heat that I found myself laughing and needing a cold shower in equal parts.  Duncan and Shelley are great characters and make a great couple, with a perfect blending of personalities and acceptance of each other’s shortcomings. It was also good to see a satisfactory outcome to the clan’s financial issues. There were some great fight scenes and cute scenes with the H/H in their wolf coats, with tons of imagery and vivid descriptions from the wolf’s POV.  I am already beginning to salivate for Cearnach’s story, coming in May 2013.  When this book hits the shelves I predict that they won't stay full for long.

p.s. In case I forgot to mention, there is a very cute scene with Duncan and Shelley buying him a new swimsuit… who knew such a sexy Alpha highlander could blush like that!

Review: Can't Help Falling in Love

Can't Help Falling In Love (The Sullivan’s #3)

by Bella Andre

Blurb:

Get ready for another Sullivan bad boy to fall in love in the third book of Bella Andre's bestselling contemporary romance series!
Gabe Sullivan risks his life every day as a firefighter in San Francisco. But after learning a brutal lesson about professional boundaries, he knows better than to risk his heart to his fire victims ever again. Especially the brave mother and daughter he saved from a deadly apartment fire...and can't stop thinking about.
Megan Harris knows she owes the heroic firefighter everything for running into a burning building to save her and her seven-year-old daughter. Everything except her heart. Because after losing her navy pilot husband five years ago, she has vowed to never suffer through loving - and losing - a man with a dangerous job again.
Only, when Gabe and Megan meet again and uncontrollable flames of desire ignite between them, how can he possibly ignore her courage, determination, and beauty? And how can she deny not only his strong bond with her daughter. But the way his sweetly sensual kisses are challenging her to risk everything she's been guarding for so long?
This winter, if one - or both - of them aren't careful, they just might end up falling in love.

Review:

Gabe’s story picks up right where we left off in the Sullivan world. Gabe’s just been called out to a fire from Marcus and Nicola’s engagement party, never knowing that his life is about to change forever.  The Sullivan family is full of fabulously gorgeous men and sexy confident women.  Eight of them in all if you can handle the unfairness of that.  I grabbed this series on a whim when there was a special because I’d liked Bella’s previous work and it was honestly the best investment I ever made.  These series will rock your world and Gabe's story is just another perfect addition.
Gabe is a sexy and heroic fireman with a sad past that has made him wary of meeting women on the job, but when he sees Megan for the first time, protecting her daughter with all of her being, he’s instantly attracted.  Even with flames all around them and all three of their lives on the line, his emotions begin to simmer distracting him enough to land him in the hospital.  Megan wakes in the hospital, remembering everything about the fire and extremely thankful that she and her daughter survived the terrible ordeal of the fire in their apartment.  But she can’t stop thinking about the firefighter whose eyes she looked into and trusted to keep them safe.   Dealing with the infatuation she feels for Gabe and the affection her daughter feels for him as well, Megan is dead set against any kind of relationship with Gabe, seeing him only as an adrenaline junkie, thrill seeker.  But when they give in to their passion, thinking to have just one night together, they both are forced to accept that maybe neither of them really wants just one night.
Gabe is one of my favorite of the Sullivan siblings.  He’s strong, sexy, and sweet and though he can be a big kid at heart, he’s a loyal and dedicated man, willing to sacrifice himself for those he loves and even total strangers in the line of duty. Initially he resists his feelings for Megan, dealing with the fear that any relationship he might develop with Megan could lead to disaster because something similar has happened in his past.  Once he decides that letting his past affect his chances of having a loving relationship with Megan isn't something he’s willing to risk, Gabe’s life and Megan’s get intense quickly.
Megan, having been hurt by the loss of her husband in a foolish waste of life, refuses to give in to the fire that burns for Gabe.  She knows she is tempting fate by making love with Gabe, but really how can she resist him when he sets his mind to seduction?  After their one night, she sends him packing, denying her feelings and the desires he brings to life in her.  But when he begins to chase after her, determined to make her see him and the love they could share, the walls she’s built around her heart start to crumble.
Gabe’s story is a wonderful new installment to the Sullivan family saga.  Megan and her daughter fit right in with the Sullivan’s and Gabe’s love brings them all together.  There is definitely undeniable heat between Gabe and Megan, often leaving you singed from their passion.  I loved reading the emotional and heated meeting between them, but even more I loved seeing how the love they developed slowly brought them both out of living in their pasts and gave them a chance for the future they deserve together.  I enjoyed seeing all the family, those who have already had their romances and getting glimpses of the next sibling to fall. I can’t wait to find out what’s happening with Sophie in particular. Bella Andre's done it again.

Review: Rogue Rider

Rogue Rider (Lords of Deliverance #4)

by Larissa Ione

Blurb:

They're here. They ride.  The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
Born of a match between good and evil, four siblings stand between hell's minions and everything they want to destroy. They are the Lords of Deliverance, and they have the power to ward off Doomsday . . . or let it ride . . .
ROGUE RIDER
Jillian Cardiff came to this remote mountain town to forget the demon attack that almost killed her. Instead, she rescues-and falls for-a gorgeous stranger who has no memory of anything other than his name. Handsome, charming, and protective, Reseph seems like the kind of man whom Jillian can trust. But with hints of a troubling history of his own, he's also the kind of man who can be very dangerous . . .
Reseph may not know why he mysteriously appeared in Jillian's life, but he knows he wants to stay. Yet when Jillian's neighbors are killed, and demon hunters arrive on the scene, Reseph fears that he's putting Jillian in danger. And once it's revealed that Reseph is also Pestilence, the Horseman responsible for ravaging the world, he and Jillian must face the greatest challenge of all: Can they forget the horrors of a chilling past to save the future they both desire?

Review:

Wow what a way to end a great series.  The four horsemen have been wreaking havoc on my bookshelves since the beginning and I was so thrilled when I found out that Reseph was going to get a novel of his own, including a sexy woman and an HEA.   I’ve been on pins and needles since the end of Limos's story to find out what happened to Reseph when Reaver released him and what was going to happen with his future.
Reseph, formerly Pestilence, has finally been released from the prison he has been contained in inside Pestilence while he destroyed the world and threatened all that Reseph every held dear.  Luckily Reseph doesn’t have any of those memories clogging his brain.  In fact, other than his name, he remembers almost nothing of who he is.  When he is pulled from a snow bank by Jillian he immediately knows that she is something special. She is sexy and self-confident for the most part, but he senses vulnerability deep inside.
Jillian has returned to her parents’ home in the middle of nowhere Wyoming, escaping her old life after barely surviving a demon attack.  She rescues Reseph, but doesn’t trust him and certainly doesn’t trust herself around him.  She tries to push him away again and again but he always comes back.   After he saves her form another demon attack, their emotions quickly flare and they find themselves unable to fight back their desires. When Reseph's siblings discover he’s alive and come for him, his memories come return in a rush and he’s forced to live with everything Pestilence did while controlling his body. His siblings take him away from Jillian and he immediately relapses into the insanity of his initial return to himself.  But the only thing that can keep him sane is Jillian and his family soon sees that and brings her to him.  But all that does is make everyone’s life more complicated.
With a bit of angelic magic, Reseph is stabilized and he’s finally able to corner Pestilence inside a vessel in his brain.  But he won’t let Jillian sacrifice herself for him and he decides to leave her for her own good.  He goes on a killing rampage, executing all of the demons who worked with Pestilence to bring about the apocalypse, including his own mother Lilith.  However, the pull he feels toward Jillian is just too strong to resist. He returns and finds himself unable to give her up for good.  And then the real challenge of getting Jillian to trust him again begins.
Reseph’s passion for Jillian is surprisingly gentle and shows the wonder of a changed man.  Pre-Pestilence Reseph was a playboy; you might even say he was a man slut, screwing anyone who offered their bodies to him with no real regard for who or what they were.  Though his man slut ways were because of a pain in his distant past.  Jillian’s love makes Reseph a better man and loving him teaches her that a true love requires forgiveness and compromise. They are a perfect couple and I was so thrilled that they finally got their HEA, though there was certainly a lot of misunderstandings and fluctuations in their relationship.  I can honestly say I haven’t cried that often while reading in ages.  But really a little bit of communication between them, true communication, would have prevented so much of their traumatic relationship drama.
As a finale to the horseman series, this book could not have been any better.  We finally learned who the horsemen’s father is; Reseph beats Pestilence back into true submission; and the siblings are finally able to forgive Reseph and come back together as a family.  Jillian and Reseph are two tortured characters that have to learn from their pasts before they can embrace a future that they can share together.  The ending of this series was a bit bittersweet, but Larissa writes it all so well it was like she wrapped everything up into a perfect little package.  It will be interesting to see what becomes of Reaver and find out if there is any way to save Harvester from her horrific fate.   If you haven’t read this series I recommend you go out and buy every one of them and read them immediately, all at once if you can, so you can enjoy the wonder that is the Lords of Deliverance.

Review: Warrior's Redemption

by Melissa Mayhue

Blurb:

Will the magic of modern romance help him defeat an evil ancient power?
MALCOLM MACDOWYLT sees himself a failed warrior, haunted by the death of the woman he married to become laird of Clan MacGahan. Neither his Viking heritage nor his claim to descend from Norse gods can restore his confidence in his ability to protect his people. His sister is held captive, her life in jeopardy, and his Magically powerful half brother wants him dead. The last thing he needs is more responsibility, but that's exactly what he gets when his Faerie mother-in-law arrives seeking justice for her daughter in the form of an enticing woman from seven hundred years in the future.
DANIELLE DEARMON has waited fifteen years to discover the life she is supposed to live. She just never dreamed she'd end up in the thirteenth century with a handsome Scot bent on saving everyone but himself.
With the lives of those most dear to him hanging in the balance, Malcolm sets out to battle a powerful evil Magic, only to learn that the redemption he seeks exists only in the arms of the woman he loves.

Review:

Warrior’s Redemption is the first in the new series by Melissa Mayhue.  Time travel, Fey magic, Norse gods and Scottish Highlanders all come together in an explosive meeting of past and future, myth and fact.  Never having read anything before by this author, I was thrilled to find a lot of my favorite themes in writing all together.  Malcolm and Dani are fabulous characters and the blending of their lives into one is done so well as to be seamless.  I’ve never come across an author who could combine all these themes so artfully and produce such a wonderful love story.
Dani has lived her entire life feeling just a little out of step with everyone around her.  The stories of the Faeries have always resonated with her, leaving her begging them for their help and offering devotions to them as a way to implore that help. The only time she’s ever felt even a little bit like herself is when she’s in the kitchen.  Finally she decides that using the magic of Samhain is the only chance she has of reaching the faeries.   But when she finally makes contact with them, she wakes up in a whole new world.
Malcolm, dealing with the guilt he feels over the death of his first wife, is surprised when his mother-in-law, a suspected Faerie, arrives back in his life.  Convinced finally that Malcolm isn’t to blame for what has happened to her daughter, she decides to use her powerscombined with the magic of Samhain and the blessings of her goddessto offer Malcolm the reward of his Soulmate.  Sent to the stone circle, Malcolm finds a beautiful but mysterious young woman, Dani, in the circle on the brink of death.  Taking her back to his keep, Malcolm is immediately caught by the passion and emotion that Dani brings out in him.
The two wrestle with their feelings and the truth about Dani’s origins, but in the end they are unable to resist each other.  Giving in to their passion they are caught in the evil machinations of Malcolm’s half-brother, who is determined to see Malcolm and all his siblings pay for their lives.  Trapped in the circumstances that could lead to their deaths, Dani is forced to rescue Malcolm and herself if they are to have any chance of a future together.
I love Dani’s spunk; she is such a lovable and exciting character to read about.  Being from the future, Malcolm doesn’t really know how to handle Dani’s fire, more used to 13th century women being meek and submissive.  Dani frustrates Malcolm and confuses him, but she brings out all the tenderness inside him, giving him something to live for other than his duty.  As they work and love together, both Dani and Malcolm finally begin to accept what the Goddess knew all along.  That they are meant to be together and they can’t let anything or anyone come between them.
I thoroughly loved Malcolm and Dani’s story and as the beginning of a new series this book hits all the important points and was a home run.  The myth and magic in the story give that extra bit of spice, but at its heart Warrior’s Redemption is about just that.  The redemption of a man’s soul as he accepts that he isn’t all powerful, but he is strong enough to protect those he loves as long as he believes in himself.   Dani is the one woman that could bring him to trust in himself again and she is determined to make sure that he knows it.  There is obviously a lot going on in this book, but it is so well weaved together that you are never left with moments of confusion or feeling like you’ve missed something.  I can’t wait to read more in this series and I am looking for to the evil Torquil being vanquished once and for all.
